Iridescent fashion has been around for a while now but I still can’t get enough! It’s fun, girly and eye-catching — and who doesn’t want to look eye-catching every once in a while? If you love shiny things, silver, pastel colours and holograms, take a closer look at this fabulous trend for Spring 2013.

Iridescent-Spring-Trend

“The sheen that features heavily in the spring/summer 13 collections has magical qualities. When hit by light, one colour becomes many, while the gauzy fabrics float about the body like a mystical glow.” Francesca Burns, Vogue Fashion Editor

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I love the versatility of this trend! I’m absolutely in love with the silver hologram look, but iridescence is so much more than that. Foils. Reflective fabrics. Metallic, intricate designs. Sheer, pastel rainbow-tinted panels. And, of course, those to-die-for silver hologram clutches!

So how does one wear this dazzling runway fashion in real life? The answer is to wear in moderation, go for statement pieces. Wearing shiny, reflective silver clothes from head-to-toe is going to leave you looking like a futuristic tin man — less “high fashion” and more “Christmas bauble”. Try pairing hologram pumps with the perfect LBD, or a bright, flashy party dress and simple, sophisticated accessories. Mix and match (with caution) different iridescent textures and pull the look together with a casual staple, like Rihanna has done here.

Here, Rihanna shows off the iridescent fashion with a technicolour crop top, silver holographic heels and a clutch. Keeping the look everyday and grounded are her distressed, casual jeans.

So what do you think? Holographic, iridescent fashion: Love it (clearly, I do) or hate it?
